Hello! My name is Sofia Carrasco and I am a Junior at W&J and I am pursuing majors in French and international studies. This spring semester, I have been an intern at Global Links, an NGO specializing in global health based in GreenTree, PA. Essentially, our work at Global Links comprises collecting excess/ legally unusable medical and clinical equipment from Pittsburgh area partner hospitals, and then redistributing these materials to local and international hospitals in South and Central America.

Sustainability is a big part of what we do—nothing of what we distribute is a new product. Our motto is “Sharing Surplus, Saving Lives;” and that describes very well what we do at the NGO.

It is a wonderful work environment with a supportive and driven environment of individuals with similar values: sustainability, humanity, and the desire to help others. Through our collection of these used/ legally unusable medical material, such as ventilators, disposable gauze, sutures, and nebulizers, we are able to work with the governments of countries such as Honduras and Guatemala, and provide them with the materials they need to strengthen their public health systems.
